What is DeDuplication?

By identifying mulitiple instances of the same data you can in some cases reduce your Storage requirements by anywhere between 10 and 50%. For example most businesses use email signatures, when an email is sent or received it can contain any number of .gif or .jpg images. Often is the case where many employees will have the same email, or same images associated. DeDuplication will identify these images and remove all but one, it will then replace the images with a flag pointing at the one image it has stored. This will still show the image on everyones footers, but only have one actual instance.

This scenario is one that all can relate to, the same would obviously apply to attachments on emails, multiple copies of documents of files on the same infrastructure, design documents etc.etc.
