Network Engineer

About the role

There is an opportunity for a dynamic Network Engineer to join our professional team. The role is based at our Cirencester head office and there will be plenty of opportunities to travel to client sites.

We are seeking someone from a focused network background with strong experience with routing and switching who can be flexible and a strong team player. You will work as part of a collaborative team as a Network Engineer on a 2nd / 3rd Line basis where your role will be split between support and project work.

  • You will provide remote support and onsite project assistance to support the rapidly growing environments of our Client’s impressive national client base.
  • You will work with multiple technology vendors (Cisco/HP/Fortinet/Palo Alto) so it would be beneficial if you had previous experience with these brands or similar (a genuine passion for these product lines would also be a bonus!)

As the team come across problems, where appropriate, technology is being standardised (with Cisco/Meraki where possible) and legacy technology replaced.

Experience with network security and design is beneficial as you will support the network architecture teams with your ‘hands-on’ knowledge of their client environments. Similarly, experience with LAN, WLAN, MPLS, WAN, FW/VPN and associated holistic Network security is highly desirable along with CCNA/CCNP (or similar) certification.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitoring network performance (availability, utilisation, throughput and latency), responding to anomalies and alarms to continuously improve network availability and stability.
  • Providing resolution to network queries escalated from the service desk team such as hardware related faults, bandwidth monitoring, and general network troubleshooting.
  • Configure, manage, document and maintain network environments spanning different vendor technologies.
  • Assist with on and offsite project based installation and deployment work, new equipment & systems as required.
  • Help define and adhere to network policies and procedures, including change control processes and governance, within our organisation.
  • Utilising skills and knowledge to assist onsite service desk with case resolution, monitoring technical escalations.
  • When required utilising skills and knowledge to assist Presales Architects in proposing Client solutions and services.
  • Meeting set KPI’s.

The Ideal Candidate

About You

We are looking for a motivated individual who embraces the challenge of problem-solving. You will have proven Network Support experience gained in a similar role.

You must also have first-class skills in written and spoken English with excellent grammar, along with an organised approach and an ability to prioritise.

You must be able to satisfy a background check to BPSS Standard. SC level clearance would be advantageous but not essential.

You must be authorised to work in the UK. No agencies, please. Applicants must be authorised to work in the UK.
Must hold a full driving license as travel to various UK sites required

Key Skills, Experiences & Qualifications

  • Cisco CCNA/CCNP or similar experience.
  • Remote Access (Cisco ASA / AnyConnect) and site to site VPN configuration experience.
  • Zone based firewall knowledge including firewall administration and troubleshooting (Cisco ASA and Firepower / Fortigate / Palo Alto / SonicWall).
  • Experience with a range of L2 switching platforms (such as Cisco Nexus, HP Procurve).
  • Working knowledge of layer 2 protocols (OSPF, VRF).
  • Experience of network monitoring platforms such as PRTG and/or Auvik.
  • Excellent layer 2 troubleshooting skills.
  • Wi-Fi experience including Survey / Design and Troubleshooting
  • Experience with industrial switching (Moxa) and Building Management System networking would be advantageous but not essential.
  • Experience with Cisco DNA Centre, ISE and FMC would be advantageous but not essential.
  • Experience of working in data centre environment
